Another Journey

During 2005, Livewire received funding for four short films from First Light. Young people applied to take part in the films; TEA LEAF, ANOTHER JOURNEY, WIRED and the animated film EVERY STREET DREAMS.

ANOTHER JOURNEY is about escapism. The red box in the film represents the place everyone goes to when they use their imagination to escape from the problems of real life.

The film uses colour in an unusual but brilliantly effective way by using black and white stills with the red box only remaining in colour, making it jump out of the frame and grab the viewer’s attention.

By following the storylines of characters of all ages, from a young child to an elderly man, ANOTHER JOURNEY shows that everyone needs to escape reality for their own reasons and this film shows this beautifully.

The editing was imaginative, using cross dissolves to display the character’s thoughts visually to the audience whilst also showing their expressions as they escape using their red box. The sound was also particularly effective in portraying how your imagination can take you away from the real world.

The unique camera work was successful in revealing the character’s attitudes and feelings, especially when the elderly man conducts an orchestra in his imagination. The angles and movement of the camera subtly display the happiness and power he feels when he escapes from the world in his mind.

ANOTHER JOURNEY uses a wide range of techniques to perfectly compliment the incredible storyline to create a genuinely amazing film.

Every street dreams

EVERY STREET DREAMS is an emotive short film created by LiveWire at Cornerhouse. During the film’s short span of time, the theme combines fear, hope, anxiety and regret in dreams, resulting in a diverse film that is unafraid to take risks.

The creators have successfully captured the chance to use animation, and other film technology, to the max, venturing into realms of creativity. Unlike other short films, EVERY STREET DREAMS tells a tale of four characters battling with their eccentric dreams and trying to depict their meaning.

Brimming with vampires, criminals, tweed settees and next-door neighbours, is this what people dream of on the same street?

The film dabbles in intense emotions and symbolic events, leaving the audience to make their own analysis of the different dreams. Is it odd that people who live in such close quarters, can dream such unique ideas and beliefs?

This film is unique, off-beat, and magnetic due to its range of ideas and themes, which the viewer can then perceive in their own way.
