A LiveWire Studio film funded by First Light

The making of Wired took place between Mon 15Aug and Fri 26 Aug 05.

Have you ever stopped dead in the street wondering what it was you were just doing? Is it possible that for a few short minutes you were controlled by someone else? A puppet master from the future perhaps?

Wired is a science fiction film about an illegal computer game from the future. Players travel back to the past to control their victim, using CCTV cameras in order to track the puppet and complete the game. Influenced by the speedy evolution of ever-more life like computer games in today’s western society and the increasing invasion of CCTV cameras in our cities, Wired considers a possible future. With a fantastic blend of computer game graphics, CCTV footage, time travel, futuristic time cops and humour, this film is a must see.

The ideas came together through a collaborative process between young people and workshop leaders/film-makers who attended LiveWire discussions. The young peoples’ fears associated with ID cards and surveillance, and their desire to imitate the aesthetic look of CCTV footage were brought into play as the initial idea for the film. The vision of the future of the gaming industry came about during pre-production work with LiveWire participants.

Film Festival Success

Since its completion, Wired has screened at: exposures UK Student Film Festival, Warrington Film Festival, Kids for Kids Film Festival and London Children's Film Festival. It has also been screened on the Big Screen in Manchester city centre and on www.itvlocal.com

“This was the first time that I’ve been involved in film making; I enjoyed it and learned a lot from it. I’ve learnt about different jobs that go with making films such as directing, filming and editing and of course being director's assistant which I enjoyed most! Working with others was great even though when I started I didn't know anyone and by the end of the workshop I had new friends and enjoyed working with everyone. We worked as a team and made a film and that is a great thing”
